The beach is one of the most fun places to be on 30A, but you still need to be careful.

Always surf and swim with a buddy,
Always make sure a grown-up knows you are going back into the water,
Pay attention to your walkover number/letter/name,
Knock down sandcastles and forts when it’s time to leave,
Pick up all of your stuff,
Don’t swim on red flag days,
Fill in the holes you dug.

(For the grown-ups)
Pay attention to your walkover number/letter/name,
Pick up all of your stuff,
Don’t swim on red flag days,
Choose someone to watch (or be with) the kids when they’re swimming,
Choose bright rash guards for the kids,
Don’t let your kids dig deep holes that their whole body (or head) can fit in. Recent beach tragedies remind us that sand collapses in the blink of an eye.
Hang a bright towel, fly a kite or carry something with you that identifies your beach chair/umbrella/tent as yours. When the beach is crowded, it is easy to lose track of where everyone is.
